True to its name, a lovely sanctuary

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights as a base for watching the India v England cricket match. The hotel is in a relatively quiet location, with stunning valley views down towards Dharamsala. There are shops nearby and it’s very quick and easy to get to Mcleodganj by tuk tuk which are readily available 2 minutes away at Dal Lake. Our room was very spacious, modern and clean with a nice large balcony to enjoy the views. We ate in the restaurant every evening and the food was excellent, a good choice of dishes and always very tasty. Mr Rana the general manager was very helpful. He organised a tour for us to visit the local Tibetan places of interest, which was fascinating and great value. Will definitely stay again if in the area.

The staff are all very attentive, polite and helpful. The food is very good and cater for milder tastes but the curries are wonderful. We were in room 302 which had everything we needed and a great view. It was unseasonably cold whilst we were there but we managed.

We visited Hotel Shiva Sanctuary in month of October during India vs Newzealand match, hotel was completely sold out but thank God we booked our 5 rooms for 3 nights in advance. Hotel is situated at very calm place and just closed to Dal Lake. In this hotel normally you will find foreigners and family crowd only. Despite of all rooms sold out, we have not heard any noise in our room. Such a good hotel every family member expect for their stay. Rooms are quite spacious , all amenities are pre installed, food is yummy and very very cooperative and honest staff. I would like to thank the management team for such a wonderful hospitality. We would definitely recommend and visit this property again in future..

Worst hotel in our Spiritual India escorted tour!

This was the worst hotel on our 2 week Spiritual India escorted tour with Mercury Holidays. The showers had major drainage issue whereby water from shower leaked all over the bathroom which could be dangerous for someone stepping out of shower. After complaining, they provided us with a bath mat which was not good enough. Also water was cold when we arrived but were asked to keep tap running for a while which worked. The hotel bar was closed as hotel had lost its drinks license. Hence no where to relax before/after dinner. Spa was closed too. Service was not good too. We had asked hotel to order us some beers for dinner which they had agreed to but when we went for dinner, initially they said beers weren't available. However after complaining they managed to get some within 10mins. Food was average and not as tasty as what we had in other hotels on tour. I'm sure there are much better places than this hotel in Dharamshala.
